A continuación os incluyo la entusiasta crónica de un locutor de la radio de Philadelphia Y-Rock:
"It would be a difficult challenge to describe the best band in the world today. In fact, some may say, it would be impossible, given the many bands that have graced the covers of music magazines and video-ready media since the King re-invented rock and roll and the Beatles experimented with the sounds of their instruments. But, at first hearing the band ‘We are Standard’ playing a live set at this year’s CMJ in New York City , I can humbly say that they are IT.
Their sound live was refreshing and contagious and strangely familiar. I can’t pinpoint the exact origin of it only to say that they reminded me of everything I’ve heard before put together in compositions that make sense. Very concise, very tight and very adventurous with funky percussion and bass lines amid intense guitar wails that bring together the personality of a band like Kinky with the intensity of the Killers.
Their upcoming release is chock full of catchy tunes with easy-to-miss homage to diverse sounds from U2 and Pet Shop Boys to Joy Division and Yaz. They’ve taken the electro-punk sound and made it into a truly enjoyable experience. Not unlike the Bravery, or even MGMT, these guys sound like the way bands should sound like which have absorbed the last twenty-five years of musical experience and this is what makes sense of their name. They are truly the standard of the new musical sound coming from places like
From the album’s first track “Bye Bye Bye” to the end, you can’t stop smiling and also wondering to yourself, “whom do they sound like?” It was the obvious question in my mind until, ultimately, I decided that they sound like everything I’ve loved over the years but in a new, brighter, palatable and surprisingly strong vehicle. ‘We are Standard’ are poised to take over the world with their sound and this album should prove to be an instant classic with songs like “The first girl who got a kiss without a please,” “the last time” and “Don’t give up.” The song “Other
A lot of people at first told me these guys reminded them of early Talking Heads, but I found that they have very little in common with the Talking Heads except some jazzy rhythm guitar and the singer’s tall and jerky motions on stage which were part-David Byrne and part-Morrisey. His delivery and presence on stage reminded me a lot of a much happier Richard Ashcroft. The spirit of Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Erasure, New Order, the Charlatans UK, the Verve and many many other bands live within their music and they surely come to the surface when you listen to their album. This album seems to customize the listening experience to each individual based on their musical background. It is an incredible experience and one I hadn’t encountered before listening to this record.
An amazing band with an indescribably wonderful album that will put a huge smile on your face and make you dance. If you catch them live, they will blow your mind.
Highly recommended. Not to be missed."
